Valdez (ValDEEZ) is located on Port Valdez, an estuary off Valdez Arm in Prince William Sound. Valdez is 115 air miles and 304 highway miles from Anchorage, and 366 highway miles from Fairbanks. It is often called Alaska's "Little Switzerland" because of its mountain setting, and is the southern terminus of the Richardson Highway from Fairbanks and the trans-Alaska pipeline from Prudhoe Bay.

Attractions near Valdez include Bridal Veil and Horesetail Falls. See the view of the Chugach Mountains and Keystone Canyon at Thompson Pass. Take a walk on the trails at Worthington Glacier State Park. Rent a sea kayak and explore Prince William Sound.
